The Dangers of Using Bleach to Clean Your Deck

Your husband's work buddies are coming over next weekend to enjoy some barbecued ribs and burgers before watching a sports game. Your husband has all the meals and drinks covered, and he asks you to get your outdoor deck prepped for his day with the guys. Unfortunately, your deck has collected a lot of dirt and grime the past summer, and when you take a closer look, you notice that your wood flooring has mold and mildew, too.

As one who's used to tough cleaning jobs, such a condition doesn't really bother you—there's always the good ol' brush and bleach for getting rid of these unwanted elements. However, do you know that the regular household bleach actually does more damage than good? For one, the fumes from undiluted bleach can cause problems to the human respiratory system, and if you happen to get it in your skin, it can cause irritation.

The fumes from undiluted bleach can also be harmful to plants and animals, so if you notice that Fido misbehaves every time you do some house cleaning, the bleach is likely the culprit. Apart from these health hazards to people and animals, any cleaning solution that contains bleach can also damage wood surfaces and discolor them. Thus, for your deck cleaning needs, it may be wiser to rely on a pressure washing company that uses a mild yet highly effective cleaning agent that can get even the most stubborn dirt and grime off wood surfaces.
